Pheasant in the corn - image
Remember,
days gone by... when pheasant hunting meant coming home from school, grabbing a gun, and walking the back 40, sure to scare up at least a half-dozen roosters?

Your family dog???... didn't matter what kind ...they were all bird dogs back then.

Hunting the farms and fields next to yours, the farm of your grandpa, or the neighbors' who didn't care if you hunted on their land????

Your first rooster??? How proud you were!!! The wind was blowing at least 40 miles an hour, the cover was thicker than concrete, the shot was at least 50 yards (crossing)...and you dropped him in waist high cattails... but he was your bird and you and old Rex found him and brought him to the table!!!

Your first time ......... hunting with your dad or grandpa???

Tired legs and a big smile???

Pheasant Hunting as it should be... As it used to be.

Doc says... "We don't march back and forth, up and down a single field; we don't spin and dizzy our birds then set them in the field so they won't fly when your dog finds them (in the same spot they were placed). "

"We free-drop our birds into cover, telling the birds not to leave our preserve...then we go have coffee and shoot the breeze a bit...then we go hunt birds that flush and fly -- given the weather of the day."
